The walking trail of Luodot (luodot = islets) is situated in the Pori National Urban Park, surrounded by the unique nature of the Kokemäenjoki river delta. The trail offers a combination of built parks, cultivated fields and lush river bank nature. Here, you can enjoy of the magical atmosphere of the waterfront groves, even though the town center is only a stone-throw away.

Trail description

At the beginning, the trail follows wide gravel walkways within the Kirjurinluoto park. After having passed the bridge of Pormestari, the trail rises for a moment on the ridge bordering the Kirjurinluoto open-air arena. Soon the environment becomes more natural and the path narrows, finding its way on the very edge of the river Kokemäenjoki. The trail goes around Raatimiehenluoto and continues to Hevosluoto. On the islets of Hevosluoto and Kvistinluoto, the trail follows dirt roads and paths covered with woodchips and stone dust, built in the lush river bank groves. Here, you can enjoy field and river sceneries, experience the empowering effect of verdant forests and admire old villas. This part of the trail forms a loop of its own, from which you return the same way back. From the road Hevosluodontie, you will turn to a narrow path following the river bank and leading you through the forest and past the decayed garden of Hanhipuisto, all the way back to Kirjurinluoto park.

Good to know

At Kirjurinluoto, there are toilets and a beach with changing rooms at Café Viksu. Especially families with children will find a lot to do and see at Kirjurinluoto park. By the bridge of Pormestari, there is a campfire site. Along the trail, you can find several benches for taking a break, and in the vicinity of the Hevosluoto
bridge there are some exercising equipment. The trail can also be shortened to versions of 3,3 km (blue signposts) or 4,4 km (red signposts). The recommended walking direction of the trail is anticlockwise, and it is connected with the Polsanluoto nature trail (0,7 km).

Difficulty level

The trail is mainly flat and thus easy to walk. The only minor reliefs are caused by the rising on the ridge of the Kirjurinluoto openair arena, small humps on the path in Raatimiehenluoto and a couple of steps leading to a bridge in Hevosluoto. The trail is a combination of gravelled walkways, dirt roads and paths covered with woodchips and stone dust, so there are no tree roots or rocks on the surface. Wooden bridges, duckboards and a couple of uncoated path sections may become slippery under wet weather conditions. Getting equipped for this trail requires nothing more than clothing according to the weather and good footwear.
