Trail description

Joutsijärvi nature trail is 29 km long around lake Joutsijärvi. There are three possible places to start the trail, two on the southside of the lake and one on the northside. The trail is variable. When leaving clockwise from the southside of the lake, the trail is quite easy and parts of the trail is sandy road. The norther you go the rockier and more difficult the trail turns into, but also the view becomes more unique. On the westside, there are three water crossings: a wooden bridge, a pulling ferry, and a pulling boat. On the eastside, there are many swamp areas and also duckboards to make the walking easier. There are a lot of open sheds, campfire sites and a couple of unlocked cabins on the trail. You can also find campfire sites on the islands of Joutsijärvi where you can row to by a rowing boat, that  can be rented from Rowing boat rent, Porin Kaupungin Luontopaja . On the northside, there is also an extra trail that you can take if you like, this extra trail increases the total length of the trail by about 5 kilometers. The well, Kustaa smoke cabin (unlocked cabin) and Korsu open shed are located on this extra trail.

Good to know

Joutsijärvi hiking trail is located in protected area which means that the majority of the sounds you can hear while hiking are sounds of nature. There is a motor boat prohibition on lake Joutsijärvi and on the lake next to it, which makes the area especially silent. Joutsijärvi has been preserved almost entirely from summer cottages and forestry disadvantages. The valuable bird population in this area highlights its wilderness. In Joutsijärvi, you can see for example ospreys, Eurasian buzzards, northern goshawks and European sparrowhawks.Difficulty level Especially the northside of the lake is quite difficult because there are roots and rocks on the trail and three is also some relief. When it has been raining you should remember that the duckboards can be slippery, so you need to be careful when walking on them. Equipment recommendation: clothing according to the weather, good hiking boots, a good supporting backpack, enough food and water and overnight equipment.
